MSU STRIDE Center
Services, Training, and Research for Independence and Desired Employment
Building Opportunities for Spartan Success (BOSS) is an innovative, one-semester work-based learning program designed to help MSU students with disabilities transition into meaningful employment. This program is made possible through a collaborative partnership involving the MSU STRIDE Center, Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), and the MSU Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD).
BOSS combines weekly lessons on employability skills with paid job placements on campus. By understanding each student’s professional interests and goals, the program pairs participants with relevant work experiences that enhance essential skills, including self-advocacy, communication, and networking. Additionally, personalized job coaching and ongoing feedback provide support as students build confidence, develop real-world skills, and achieve greater independence.
If you are interested in participating in Spartan Works, the first step is to connect with your Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) or Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP) counselor. They are there to support you and can help you understand if you are eligible for services. If you're already working with MRS, they can also help you see if this program is the right fit for your needs.
If you haven't contacted MRS or BSBP yet, please know that the eligibility process might take up to three months. Starting this process early can facilitate a smoother transition. We are here to assist you at every stage.
